- Staying put: Mario Goetze has decided to stick with Borussia Dortmund
Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid Target Mario Gotze has signed a new long-term contract with current Bundesliga Champions Borussia Dortmund.The highly-rated Germany youngster has decided to stay with Borussia Dortmund after agreeing a new deal until 2016. Arsenal seemed the most likely to sign the German international with reported talks being held between the clubs, however those talks clearly didn’t have any effect on the player and although Gotze has publically announced his joy about interest from Arsenal, the player has decided to stay.
Gotze said: ‘Everyone knows how comfortable I feel in Dortmund. The clubs are far from finished with their recent resurgence. And I want to be part of this development.’
Sporting director Michael Zorc was thrilled to keep a player who has also attracted attention from clubs across Europe.
He said: ‘We are very happy that we will take the next step with Mario in the future.’
Gunners manager Arséne Wenger was keen on linking up with Mario Gotze and the 19 year-old was the clubs main transfer target for this summer, however the Frenchman must now look to other options. Wenger has already agreed a deal for one German though - striker Lukas Podolski - from Cologne, the confirmation of the transfer is to be held until the summer due to Cologne’s relegation fears. While talks are ongoing with French Club Rennes for France midfielder Yann M’Vila, and Ajax’s Jan Vertonghen
