Real Madrid want Manchester City’s star midfielder David Silva, according to reports in Spain.
Sports paper AS has strong beliefs that the former Valencia star is now Jose Mourinho’s top transfer target, which could very well be done this summer.
It has long been expected that Real would make a move for Silva’s Etihad Stadium team-mate Sergio Aguero this summer, with Robin van Persie seen as a way to soothe City fans’ disappointment if the striker did move on.
The German has been only a qualified success since arriving from Werder Bremen in 2010 and Jose could finance the deal by selling Kaka to PSG.
AS have ma contact has already been made with a representative of Silva’s. Ironically, the player is heading to Madrid after a week’s holiday in Argentina – but only to link up with his international team-mates ahead of Euro 2012.
Silva faded after an incredible start to the season, with a long-term ankle problem blamed for him missing out on what in January looked a sure-fire Barclays Premier League player of the season award.
But he was in fine form as City won their final three games to seal the title and only a fortnight ago was discussing staying at Eastlands into his thirties.
The 26-year-old said: “I’ve got two years left on my contract and I’ve always said I’ll be happy to stay here.
“But I’m not thinking of an extension to my contract at the moment.”
