Group D favourites France and England are in a competition to come out on top, since second has to play Spain.
If dark horses France are to come out on top, England would have to play Spain on the 23rd June. As long as they come second. Now this may not seem too bad as England beat Spain 1-0 in their most recent match. But in a tournament it is always different.
France are unbeaten in 20 matches and are looking like the most surprisingly underrated team in the tournament. Since this is the first game, whoever wins will probably go on to win the group, and end up facing either Italy or Croatia or Ireland. (Assuming Spain win the group).
England have pressure lifted off them in this tournament, as they have under-performed in recent years. However this relief of pressure might see them over-perform as a new manager and a new found spirit has lifted them and the English public are not expecting so much this time round.
We can only wait and see to see who comes out on top, but France are looking favourites to me simply because they are the Dark horses of the tournament.
Don’t forget to tune-in to watch England’s opener against France on 11th June!
