Arsenal are being linked with a £10million move for Atletico Madrid attacking midfielder Adrian Lopez, according to reports from Spain.
Spanish newspaper AS claims the Gunners are readying a bid for the 24-year-old who scored 19 goals for Atletico last season. However, 11 of those goals came in 18 Europa league games while his goalscoring record in La Liga was a much more modest seven goals in 35 games.
Lopez – known simply as Adrian – has only been at the Vicente Calderon stadium for one season, signing on a free transfer after his contract expired at Deportivo La Coruna.
According to AS Adrian was watched by the Gunners on at least ten occasions last season
Meanwhile, Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud is set to complete his move to Arsenal this week following France’s elimination from Euro 2012. Les Bleus were beaten 2-0 by Spain in last night’s quarter-final and will leave their Ukraine base for France later today.
Giroud is expected to undergo a medical at Arsenal this week before signing a five-year deal worth around £60,000 a week. Depending on who you read, Arsenal will pay Montpellier between £10million and £12million for the 25-year-old who was top scorer in Ligue 1 last season.
