Marco Reus of Germany

Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger has said that he is ‘on the case’ with Germany’s Marco Reus even if the chances of him signing the 23-year-old are practically non-existent.

Reus made his first appearance at Euro 2012 on Friday when he contributed to Germany’s fourth goal by being the one to hit the back of the net in their 4-2 victory over Greece in Friday’s quarter-final. The 23-year-old scored 21 goals for Borrusia Monchengladbach last season as they surprised German football by rising from relegation candidates in 2010-11 to fourth place last season and a spot in the Champions League play-offs.

Wenger, who is working for French TV station TF1 during Euro 2012, was asked by his fellow panellist Bixente Lizarazu if he was “on the case.” Wenger replied “yes.”

It is unlikely that Dortmund would want to part with Reus before he has even played a game for them but the German star is likely to be on Wenger’s watch list over the next couple of years.

Bolton Wanderers were linked with Reus last summer after he scored 11 goals for Monchengladbach during 2010-11 but nothing came of Owen Coyle’s enquiry.
