Didier Drogba could be set to complete a transfer to Spanish Giant FC Barcelona just days after signing a contract with Chinese club Shangha Shenhua. The 34 year old has already signed for the Chinese Club on a 2 year deal, in which he would earn £200,000 a week, however a clause in his contract allows the Ivorian to move to Barcelona on a free transfer.
He is expected to arrive in Barcelona on Tuesday afternoon to meet club directors the next day. However early indications suggest that unless Drogba lowers his wage demands then a deal will not be struck. Both Barcelona and Drogba are keen on the move and Drogba would be willing to lower his £200,000 p/w wage demands as he is likely to win lots of trophies with the club from Catalyuna. But if Drogba is willing to take a 57% wage cut from £200,000 p/w to a £85,000 p/w contract is yet to be known.
A move is still far off and until club officials meet with Drogba on Tuesday, any potential deal is still in the balance.
