Chelsea lining up a new Schurrle bid, Sturridge out?

Chelsea are reportedly ready with a bigger second bid for Bayer Leverkusen winger Andre Schurrle after the first failed attempt.

The Blues saw a bid said to have been 20million euro (£16million) rejected by the Bundesliga club at the weekend and a report by Daily Telegraph claims that they are ready with a bid of around £20million this time. However, reports from Germany claimed on Monday that Chelsea’s original bid was £20million and it is not clear whether scheduled talks took place last night.

Bayer coach Sacha Lewandowski insisted that Schurrle would be staying with the Bundesliga side. “The fact that he remains is for a positive signal,” Lewandowski told German newspaper Bild. “We have big goals which we want to achieve together with him!”

The Telegraph added that should Schurrle arrive at Stamford Bridge it is likely to lead to the departure of Daniel Sturridge. Liverpool and his old club Manchester City have been linked with interest for a while now.

Schurrle only moved to Leverkusen last summer from Mainz in a deal worth £6.5million. He is under contract with Bayer until 2016.
