Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is still hoping to sign Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie after the Dutch international refused to sign a contract extension with the club.

Its believed that Fergie, who is in London on Wednesday, and would love to pair Van Persie with Wayne Rooney to form a formidable partnership, as he bids to take the title back to Old Trafford .

United’s rivals Manchester City are determined to step up their interest in last season’s double player of the year once they have finalized the six million pound sale of Emmanuel Adebayor to Spurs.

Van Persie, however, is believed to be concerned about boss Roberto Mancini’s policy of rotating his strikers and possibly being a sub, The Sun reports.

United do not want to be sucked into a tapping-up row like City and are reluctant to pay 30 million pounds for the 29-year-old.

I’d rather Arsenal keep RVP but it would be so funny if he leaves and he has a relaps of his last 6 year sideline sponsorship. Seems to always occur after the Int friendlies in August.
