Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has reportely been the centre of a £13million bid from Manchester City, according to a report today, but the bid has been rejected by the Reds.

The Daily Mirror claims that Manchester  City lodged the bid with Liverpool around a week ago and that it was immediately turned down by the Anfield side. The paper added that City are willing to sell Kolo Toure to partly fund the transaction.

Agger was linked with interest from Barcelona earlier this month with reports from Denmark claiming he was one of a number of players the Catalan giants were lining up as an alternative to Athletic Bilbao’s Javi Martinez.

The Denmark international is under contract at Anfield until 2014 so there is no pressure on Liverpool to sell and manager Brendan Rodgers has already said that Agger wants to stay at Anfield and fight to make the club better. Reports earlier this month linking Agger with Real Madrid and which also appeared in today’s Mirror report appears to be without foundation.

Liverpool are said to be keen to offer Agger a new deal at Anfield but it remains to be seen whether or not they can compete with City’s finances. However, the Mirror claims that Agger has already told Rodgers that he wants to leave the club and will decide in the coming weeks whether to head for the Etihad Stadium or for Spain.
