Daniel Sturridge is being heavily linked with a departure from Chelsea as his relationship with manager Roberto di Matteo continues to go downhill.

Goal.com has made claims that Chelsea are reluctant to extend Sturridge’s contract which will be expiring in 2014 even though he scored 13 goals for the Blues last season. Sturridge has failed to make the starting line-up for the side this season and withdrew from Wednesday’s clash with Juventus with a minor hamstring injury.

Premier League clubs Manchester City and Liverpool have both been linked with Sturridge earlier this summer with the Anfield side reportedly having put in a quick loan bid on transfer deadline day at the end of August; however, the 23-year-old rejected the idea stating he was only interested in a permanent transfer, if he was ever going to leave Chelsea.

Sturridge left Manchester City in 2009 and signed for Chelsea, where he was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers for the second half of the 2010–11 season. He then had a successful spell at Bolton, scoring 8 goals in 12 appearances, Sturridge returned to Chelsea for the 2011–12 season.
