Manchester United are once again being linked with Ajax youngster Viktor Fischer. The 18-year-old Dane has made just one first-team appearance for the Dutch champions but was compared to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo after scoring a hat-trick against Molde in Ajax’s 5-0 win in the NextGen Series earlier this week.
United were linked with Fischer earlier this year when it emerged they were watching the youngster who finished top scorer as Ajax reached the final of last season’s NextGen Series, the UEFA championship for youth-team players.
After this week’s hat-trick Metro newspaper have seen fit to revive reports of United’s interest claiming this has been reported in Holland. Even so, Denmark’s Under-19 coach Thomas Frank has hailed Fischer as one of Europe’s outstanding future prospects.
“As a type of player he is like Messi and Ronaldo – without comparing the two,” Frank told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. “But Fischer has the same ambition that he just wants to score. He remains hungry, even when he has scored two or three goals in a match.”
Frank went on: “His core competence is his finishing. He is very calm in front of goal and takes the initiative when he is one-on-one with the keeper. He has simply mastered everything: close with the instep, inside, outside and so on.”
Fischer is under contract with Ajax until 2014 but Metro claims he could make a move away from the club beforehand. The paper adds that Sir Alex Ferguson would be willing to pay around £5million for the youngster, a more realistic price compared to the £15million rating given to Fischer earlier this year.
