After being linked this morning with Torino centre-back Angelo Ogbonna, Liverpool are now being linked with Genoa’s former Wigan defender Andreas Granqvist.
Reports from Italy this morning have suggested that scouts from Anfield were at the Genoa-Palermo game on Saturday night and taken together with the news about Ogbonna it suggests the Reds will be in the market for a central defender in the January transfer window.
Granqvist, 27, is under contract at the Serie A side until 2015 after moving from Dutch side Groningen in a 2million euro deal in the summer of 2011. Prior to that he had season at Wigan Athletic, playing 14 Premier League games for the side in 2007-08 before going back to Helsingborg, the club where he started his career. Latics eventually sold him to Dutch side Groningen for £600,000, slightly less than they had paid for him.
The Sweden international secured his place in Genoa’s first-team in October of last year and has been a first-team regular since then. AC Milan have also been monitoring his progress.
