Liverpool are currently being linked with Schalke 04 striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The Dutchman was top scorer in Germany’s Bundesliga last season with 29 goals in 32 games but his contract is up at the end of the season and talks over a new deal will not take place until December at the earliest.
The Daily Star claims Liverpool will launch a January raid for the 29-year-old who had spells atReal Madrid and AC Milan before moving to Schalke in 2010.
I have had the feeling Klaas-Jan can’t decide at this stage and I will give him the time he needs,” Schalke general manaager Horst Heldt told German TV channel Sport 1 at the weekend.
“My goal is to persuade him to stay at Schalke and to extend his contract.
“We will resume the talks in December – January at the latest – and then I expect a quick decision.
Should Huntelaar fail to agree a new deal with Schalke he can talk to overseas clubs in January about a Bosman move at the end of the season. Alternatively, Schalke may decide to cash in on him by selling him during the winter transfer window.
Liverpool are desperate to add to their front-line after sending Andy Carroll out on loan at the end of August and seeing Fabio Borini sidelined for three months with an ankle injury.
