Manchester United are being heavily linked with Molde centre-back Vegard Forren after the Norwegian side’s boss Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer claimed he would soon be good enough for a move to Old Trafford.

Solskjaer’s comments are being taken in some quarters as evidence that United are monitoring the 24-year-old Forren but says he must work on his game first.

“Yes, he could play for Manchester United, but I don’t have to tell him that. At his best he is a very good footballer,” he told Norwegian TV station TV2.

However, Solskjaer warned that Forren must remain focussed on his game and in particular his international career.

“Vegard is a very good footballer but he has to be focused on delivering and securing his place in the Norway team,” he said.

Forren has been at Molde since 2007 when he joined from lower-league side KIL/Hemne after impressing against Molde in a Norwegian Cup tie. He has well over 100 appearances to his name for the Norwegian champions and made his international debut for Norway in January of this year.
